Happy Halloween to All! How awesome that in addition to Halloween, it's also Caramel Apple Day. We love using apples in our recipes as they are packed with vital nutrients. Most dogs like their taste. We wanted to create a fun recipe that all dogs could enjoy. Our "Caramel Yapple Nuggets" is a de-constructed version of the traditional caramel apple. Since chocolate in general in not appropriate for dogs to consume, we decided to change it up a bit to craft a recipe that is not only safe to eat, but will definitely become a Fido Favorite for years to come!
Here's what the ingredients look like when you are beginning the recipe. We are using:
1 medium apple
1 cup of beef gravy
1/4 lb. ground beef
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
We used gravy in place of the caramel so the coloring looked the same, but the ingredient is safe for dogs. Who doesn't love gravy? You can use any type you like. I prefer the low sodium brands if I don't make my own from scratch. We also added some ground beef to give the recipe some protein.
Following the recipe, we browned the ground beef and added it along with the cinnamon to the gravy. We also peeled, cored, and sliced the apple into 1" pieces, or nuggets.
After drizzling the "caramel" mixture (gravy) on top of the apples, we bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
We removed from the oven and allowed to cool. The house smells so good right now. The apples and cinnamon smell just like fall.
Our dogs are going to enjoy this fun treat tonight. Full confession - they have already eaten about half of the apple pieces during the "taste testing" process. That's a fancy way of saying that I caved in and shared some pieces with them! Ha!
Here's the full recipe card. Bone Appetit!
