We’re celebrating National Love Your Pet Day by launching a new series – Real Eats forRover. To us, there’s no better way to love your dog than from the inside out. Proper nutrition is the foundation for a long and happy life. While some may call this pampering our pooches, we feel it’s healthy lifestyle choices. First up in this series is the most important ingredient in our meal plans – protein. Here are the details on the proteins we use:
We only use restaurant quality meats sourced through local (Chicagoland) supply houses. For example, the chicken breasts we use are the same ones you’ll get when you order chicken parmesan at your favorite restaurant.
Our proteins are only from the United States and mostly from the Midwest.
Our proteins are all human grade only. We do not use any protein or organ meat that humans cannot consume.
We do include organ or offal meat in our recipe. This is a vital part of providing balanced nutrition as they contain many minerals not found in muscle meat. These minerals include iron, copper, and folic acid.
We use single protein recipes. For example, when we create a recipe using lamb, we only use lamb organ meat. This is important for those dogs that might have a protein allergy.
We go shopping every week on Mondays for all of the ingredients we’ll use for that week of orders. We make food on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. So the protein we purchase on Monday is most likely delivered to your home on Thursday.
We use a consistent variety of proteins that include chicken, turkey, pork, lamb, beef, and fish.
