Our Real Eats for Rover series concludes today with Natural Coloring. Our food and treats are made with all natural ingredients and their colors are reflective of those ingredients. We don’t add anything to create the fun colors we have. We consider it a challenge to create them using different combinations of ingredients. Some of the fun ones we’ve created are:
Purple – This is one of my favorites as it’s so strikingly different from what kibble looks like. We use red cabbage to create the base of our purple and add green beans for a dark shade and turnip for a lighter shade.
Red – This is a fan favorite and no surprise beets are the basis of this color. The shade of red can be altered by the amount of beet that is added to the batch.
Yellow – This color is a bit harder to achieve but we’ve been able to create a fun, pastel yellow with yellow squash and yellow pepper. We use this color in our new treats Leprechaun Loot for St. Patrick’s Day. Order yours today!
Green – We like to create a couple of different shades of green – a lighter green can be achieved with daikon and peas. A darker shade of green can be made using spinach.
White – We create white for our treat ensembles and use turnip and banana. The protein used determines how bright the white is.
Orange – Super easy on this one – carrots make a great lighter shade and sweet potatoes make a great darker shade.
