In Part 3 of our series, No Thanks! Rover Would Rather: Wolf down Whole Foods, we’ll look at real food used as ingredients. As we reviewed in our Whole Foods blog last week, we create diets using fresh, real ingredients. We don’t ingredients just to take up space. We carefully select each ingredient for what they “bring to the table”, so to speak.
In a recent study, Natural News researched the top pet food brands and they found that 25% of all pet foods contain dried beet pulp. Dried Beet Pulp is:
Added as an inexpensive filler.
Can cause sugar allergies or hyperactivity.
Can cause blood sugar imbalances.
Why not just add real beets? They are truly a super food for both people and pups and are not on the top of the most expensive vegetables known to man. I just don’t understand the rationale for this one at all.
We use real beets. Our hands get stained red from peeling. We use real golden beets – no hand staining on these (whew!) And my dog Dekes loves beets so he gets to sample them while we’re making food. I don’t think I’d be sharing dried beet pulp with any of my dogs or yours. Doesn’t matter – it won’t be in our kitchen!
