Can my Dog Eat that? Figs
August 29, 2017

This week we’re asking – “Can my dog eat that?” Our focus will be on fruits and vegetables that are coming into season over the couple of weeks. These items will most likely be on sale and easily available for you to freshen up your pup’s diet.
Next up – Figs.

A sweet treat for your pup for sure but in moderation! Some dogs may be allergic to figs so start slowly. We suggest a small taste and then wait to see if your pup has an allergic reaction. This reaction could include sneezing, coughing or a rash in his mouth. Also limit the number of figs to 1-2 per week as they may cause diarrhea. Figs are packed with fiber and potassium so they are a perfect way to boost your pup’s diet!
Provided your pup is not allergic, here are some easy recipes to share with your dog:
Slice up a fig and freeze the slices. This makes a refreshing end of summer treat!
Slice up a fig. Puree until smooth in your food processor. Mix with 3-4 ounces of vanilla yogurt and freeze. Another summer treat!
Slice up a couple of figs. Place on a cookie sheet in a 250 degree oven and bake until dry. You’ve got some Fruit Jerky!
