As the winter months set in, we wanted to share some natural remedies to help your pup who might suffer from dry, itchy skin. We include many of these ingredients in our foods regularly and when requested. Here are a few ideas:
This is the most important thing to consider if your pup has itchy or dry skin is to remove possible irritants. These irritants can include grains or glutens. Also, chicken which is widely used in commercially made dog food is also becoming an irritant to many dogs. Removing any of these items may solve your pup’s itchy skin.
Add eggs. Yes, eggs are a great addition to your dog’s diet for so many reasons. They help
keep the skin hydrated, coat shiny, and even add a few extra calories for those pup’s that “work for their supper.”
3. Oils help keep your dog’s skin soft and coat shiny. They also help ease digestion, greasing the wheel so to speak. Adding a small amount on top of his food will enhance his dinner and help his skin.
4.Cranberries contain lots of anti-oxidants that help reduce skin inflammation. They can also help heal skin wounds.
5. Lack of riboflavin in your dog’s diet may cause dandruff or greasy, scaly skin. Dogs do not produce riboflavin naturally so it must be ingested regularly. Adding beef liver or spinach to your dog’s food will keep those riboflavin levels in check.
